From Our Hands to Yours: The Heart Behind New Cabochons
Our Story
Hello! I’m Rosa, the founder and owner of New Stone Age Cabochons.
Growing up between Canada and Mexico, I was surrounded by stones and stories. My father was a lapidary artist, and I grew up helping him sell his creations at markets and gem shows. Through him, I learned not just the art of cutting and polishing, but the deeper lesson — that every stone connects people across distance, culture, and craft. Each stone carries a deeper meaning to each person.
In 2015, I followed my roots and turned my passion into my life’s work. What began as small tables at local markets evolved into a thriving business powered by organic growth on Instagram. We have had the pleasure of connecting with passionate jewellers, lapidary artists, and collectors worldwide.
Here, you are welcome to join a network of artisans and silversmiths who share a passion for craftsmanship, honesty, and creations made with heart.
Looking Forward
Alongside my late partner, Graeme, we built a community where creativity, integrity, and human connection come first. Now, I am proud to see how New Cabochons became one of the most consistent and trusted cabochon sellers on Instagram, and this website is the result of all these years of effort, hard and beautiful lessons, evolving next to hundreds of artisans and silversmiths who inspire us with their love for their craft.
To everyone who has supported us since 2015 — thank you!
Your encouragement, loyalty, and creativity mean everything. And to those discovering us for the first time: Welcome to the most creative and genuine community of Rockstars!
We’re honoured to be part of your creative journey, and we can’t wait to see what you make with our stones.

Our Roots
A Meaningful Journey of Connection and Friendship
Before New Stone Age Cabochons began, I was already buying and selling cabochons with my father, who was a lapidary artist himself. Those early years shaped me and showed me that every stone carries a deep, unique and meaningful story.
Years later, during a sourcing trip to southern Mexico, I met Sandra — a woman with kind eyes and a quiet strength that instantly put me at ease. She told me about her father, who hand-cut all the amber she sold. Her story felt like a reflection of my own — a daughter selling her father's product.
I placed a small order that day, unaware that it would mark the beginning of something much deeper — a friendship that would grow into the backbone of the small business I was starting.
As the years passed, our connection — both personal and professional — blossomed. One day, Sandra and her family invited me and my late husband, Graeme, to visit their home in southern Mexico. We accepted without hesitation.
Those days are etched in my memory — the scent of rain on the cobblestones, the laughter that spilled into the night, the warmth of their hospitality. We visited the amber mines together and, with excitement and fear, walked into the dark tunnels in search of amber. We watched her family hand-cut amber in their small home workshop, each movement filled with patience, pride, and love.
It was in those quiet moments that I formed a strong connection with this family and their product, and it meant something to me to sell it.
Over ten years later, Sandra’s family remains at the center of our story. They have become not just partners, but friends. Today, 90% of the cabochons we sell are either cut in my own home lapidary shop in Canada or in Sandra’s family workshop in Mexico. On occasion, we also work with other Mexican lapidary artists.
That’s how I can guarantee each stone is cut with integrity and care. These stones mean more to us than their beauty — they carry a story of friendship and hard work that began long before it reached your hands. We are honoured that you have decided to let us be a small part of your jewelry story.
Our Commitment
Sourcing with care/ Integrity and cutting ethically
At New Stone Age Cabochons, we believe that through connection and care, we create our best work.
The relationship we built with Sandra’s family has become the blueprint for how we operate. It represents everything we value: honesty, transparency, and respect.
We call it sourcing with integrity — a commitment to being truthful about where our stones come from, how they’re cut, and who makes them. It means refusing to sell materials that raise ethical concerns. It means being accountable, fair, and transparent with both our suppliers and our customers.
We believe that we have limited control on the gem industry but we can ensure that our lapidary artists are treated with respect and fairness. The result is a product that is meaningful and unique.
This approach takes more time, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. Greatness takes time.
